Wahiawa Oahu is located in the center of the island just north of Mililani. Technically on the plateau or “Central Valley” between two volcanic mountains, this location has some of the most beautiful scenery and views on the island. Wahiawa is home to about 18,000 residents and is surrounded on three sides by Lake Wilson. The city itself must be accessed via two distinct bridges on the north and south side connecting to H2. Just outside of Wahiawa is the military bases and agricultural fields such as Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Army airfield and East Range.
Probably one of the most unique things about Wahiawa is it’s rare reservoir and Lake Wilson. The Wahiawa reservoir is the second largest reservoir in Hawaii at over 300 acres. It’s primarily used air again agricultural fields including the Dole Pineapple Plantation.
SCHOOLS
Wahiawa is operated by the Hawaii State Department of Education and includes six elementary schools, the Wahiawa middle school and the Leilehua high school. Most of the elementary schools carry some sort of religious aspect to them such as the Trinity Lutheran church and school, the first Baptist Church and the abundant life United pent church.
In the center of town is the Wahiawa Recreation Center, which features a botanical garden, sports fields, sports court’s and open space. Just west of the field is the Wahiawa Gen. Hospital and south of there is the Wahiawa freshwater state park. The Leilehua Golf Course is just south of town and north of town is the small community of Whitmore Village.
One of the best things about this small community is the beautiful views and central location. Fascinating events and things to do include the Dole Plantation factory tours, the unique geological formations of the Kukaniloko Birthing Stones and some of the best food on the island such as Maui Mike’s Fire roasted chicken and our famous surfers coffee bar.
